The name

Why is it called Ganesha??

RDF is all about providing more information about things in a form that computers can make sense of. So, in a way, it's about giving computers greater knowledge about what's out there. The reason for wanting to do so is to make computers smarter at processing information so that they can make our lives easier.

Now I wanted to give my project a snazzy name since a utility to author RDF/XML files is hardly a catchy or memorable. I've always liked mythological stories and characters so I googled around a bit and eventually stumbled across Ganesha.

I had heard of Ganesha before but I never knew he was the Hindu god of knowledge and destroyer of obstacles! Just the kind of thing I was looking for!

So, that was that - Ganesha became the name of my project and Ganesha's depiction as an humanoid Elephant being became its logo!
